About Apres Ski Chair

Après-ski (ah-prey-skee, ap-rey-) is a French term meaning after ski, and it typically refers to the social activities that take place after a day on the slopes, such as sharing tales of the day's adventures over dinner and drinks.

My passion for skiing began at an early age back in the sixties. Despite the poor quality of the equipment at the time, like leather lace-up boots and bear trap bindings, my friends and I would eagerly plan trips to the ski areas of Maine, NH, and Vermont.

Our annual tradition always started with a trip to Killington, VT, for Thanksgiving weekend, followed by as many other skiing days as we could manage throughout the season.

However, when I turned 30, I was diagnosed with Lupus, which resulted in my joints, especially my knees, deteriorating to the point where skiing became too painful.

I then took a second job at the local ski area where I had spent my youth skiing, which ultimately blossomed into a full-time career lasting over 16 years. Even though I wasn’t skiing anymore, it was wonderful to be back in the environment that brought me so much joy growing up.

Due to some life-altering illnesses and my gradual decline, I made the decision to retire and embark on this new endeavor while I still had the ability to move.

I chose the name Après Ski Chair because my creations were getting a new 'after ski' life. I don’t aim to be a high-volume shop producing average 'picnic table' style Adirondack ski chairs. Instead, I focus on crafting high-quality, limited production furniture that serves as functional and beautiful ski decor, whether inside or outside your home, including unique coat racks that reflect the spirit of skiing.

Feel free to reach out to me personally with any questions about my products and how I can help create your next family heirloom.
